“Behind Every Great Author is a Great Writer.”
How can this be?
Isn’t an author also a writer?
Yes. No. Sometimes.
An author, first and foremost, is a storyteller.
A writer is an inventor. A writer discovers, creates and recreates the story in a myriad of ways.
Now an author may enlist the help of a writer.
An author is a storyteller.
In the form of a ghostwriter, an editor, or even a mentor, coach, or teacher.
Or an author may do all of the above, too.
An author who is also a writer wears many hats. They know how to ask questions, do the research, and discover the story along the way.
An author who is an editor knows how to put the story down for a while and pick it back up with a different set of eyes to see the story in a new light.
A writer is an inventor.
What does it mean to be a great writer?
A great writer knows how to balance the conventional with the unconventional. They know the rules so that they can break them.
A great writer writes believable stories so that readers can make-believe.
A great writer’s hope makes a reader dream.
A great writer writes from the heart to reach other hearts.
A great writer makes an author look great. Together, a great author and a great writer are unstoppable. Whether they are one in the same or a writing team.
