You’ve spent hours, days, weeks, months, (and maybe even years) writing your book.
A lot of sweat, tears, emotions, heart, and soul have gone into your story.
It’s hard to let it go.
Before you self-publish your book or submit your book manuscript to an agent or a publisher, you will want to make sure it is in the best form possible!
Your name is on it as the author. And, with your name, your credibility and expertise are at stake.
But there is one small problem that has big consequences. You are too close to the story. So close that it’s hard to see it any other way. But, let go you must, if even a little, to see how others perceive and receive your message.
You certainly don’t want your best friend (or even worse, a family member) to be reading your book, critiquing it, or editing it.
Why?
Your loved ones won’t want to hurt your feelings. Or, while they may be good grammarians and perfect spellers, they may not have the skill set to edit a book.
This is because editing is more than grammar and spelling. While those things are important, your message is paramount.
Thus, you need an impartial professional editor who can:
Point out gaps, character flaws, missing information,
Help you structure your work better,
Guides your writing so it flows,
Sharpen your message so that it resonates with readers.
A great editor will also respect your writing’s personality, voice, and style, all the while making your work sound professional, clean, and well-polished.
A great editor will also:
Take the time to thoroughly read and understand your manuscript,
Look for ways to improve it,
And help you improve as a writer.
